DUB PACE
I got sick and tired of being sick and tired of people recommending the atrociously paced One Piece anime, so I decided to stop bitching and take matters into my own hands and re-cut the first half of the series myself.
This is also my first video editing job of any kind. Be gentle.
FAQ:
Isn't this just like One Pace?
Yes, I DO know One Pace exists… but quite frankly I’m not completely satisfied with the job they did because I ALSO know that they’ve skipped some of the best arcs in the series, namely Arlong Park, Alabasta, and Water 7. I also know WHY they do it, but it doesn't change the fact that they still don't have these arcs up yet.
To separate this from One Pace, I’m using the English dub instead of the original Japanese and stopping at the time skip, because the dub has only gone up through Fishman Island. The other big difference is that I’ve cut it into roughly hour-long chunks to make it more bingeable. Each episode runs from around 40 to 80 minutes and usually covers a bit over half to a bit under a full volume of manga, with the exception of the finale which runs for an hour and a half plus a post-credits scene. In total there’s 84 episodes, with an additional half episode dedicated to the Ace vs. Blackbeard fight. Think of it as a Netflixification of the One Piece anime.
I started out trying to make everything 1:1 with the manga, but that quickly became tedious because of how much the anime likes to swap scenes around from the manga. I also left in certain filler scenes if I liked them enough. Long story short, if you’re looking to binge the English dub of the first half of the series or looking to show it to someone else, this would be a good start.
Why isn't it subbed??
Because I like the dub better. If you want it subbed, go to One Pace.
I can't play or download on Google Drive. What gives?
If you get a notice saying that the amount of "allowed playbacks" or whatever has been reached, I think you should still be able to download it.
If you hit the download limit, you can click Copy to My Drive, and you can download from there if you have enough space on your Drive.
Two last notes, though.
1) I really appreciate all the positive feedback I've gotten from this. It means a lot to me.
2) After watching a shitload of episodes, I've come to notice that the background music in One Piece reminds me a LOT of Dragon Quest. Anyone else hear that? It's definitely fitting at least. They're both mostly lighthearted adventures in worlds built on puns. They're also both related to Akira Toriyama. Toriyama does the character designs in Dragon Quest, while One Piece is heavily inspired by Toriyama's seminal classic... Dr. Slump.
This is season three, Skypeia. It covers volumes 24-32 of the manga.
