QUICK FIX NOTE: As Ascdren kindly pointed out. Sailor Moon R Episode 75 in this batch is a half cut (Guess my re-encoding must've stuffed up) --
Please grab the replacement and full episode here: https://mega.nz/#!V0YhUIBa!cvirHN6m16NCpHaozSAsyeNlZXTya1a5keGa4sphhbw
Moving on:
I don't even know where to begin with this... Season 5 was a pain in the ass since i had to scour the internet for the iso files and convert them since I wanted dual audio... Then that kind of went down a rabbit of hole of going through multiple websites and realising there were movies missing here and there; furthermore there were recaps for each season I didn't even know about.. I PRAY i managed to find a most complete version out there. I'll add example photos later I think.
Side Note: Movies are a mixture of 720p/1080p and as far as I know all of it is in dual audio (minus the Memorials)
This includes:
01. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
02. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R
03. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R - The Movie (The Promise Of Rose)
04. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R - Make Up! Sailor Soldier!
05. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S
06. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S - Kaguya-hime no Koibito (Hearts In Ice)
07. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon SuperS
08. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon SuperS - Specials
09. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon - The Movie (Black Dream Hole)
10. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon - Ami's First Love
11. Extra: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Memorial (Summary Of Each Season)
As usual I converted them to x265 10bit to compress as much as I can (original file size numbered 140GB+ last I remembered). Some were harder to obtain than others... Like a particular movie *cough*. for the sake of my rabbit hole obsession I threw in all the extras (DVD covers, promos, OST's) in the mix also, and a list of chronological order according to MAL. I probably messed up somewhere.. For that I am sorry but at the same time I am over this series and wanted it FINISHED. Birates will vary heavily So I'll just put up a basic one of Goten's & mines. The movies retained majority of their quality. Hope you all enjoy.

I'm glad you're all happy. I just hope my coding is up to par. Though I must admit... There were too many damn movies for each season. Each scattered among like four different websites... Absolute pain in the ass. I actually had the season 5 iso's for some time... Just splitting them and getting them right was a task and work and life prevented me from finishing it.. Especially Heart on Ice.. What an odd one to not be floating around. But realized it had to be done some time. Till I realized I was missing a few movies and the memorial recaps.. Just be patient with me pls. Speeds are moderate 2MB/s - 4MB/s is the best my country can provide.
I'll Leave it running for a week or so and hopefully get some good seeders on this.
Thanks guys for helping me seed. I've seeded back about 110GB so far. Might let it seed a bit more but now I have it ready for seeding whenever.
Side note: I tried to leave seasons 1-4 + all the others that came from here in their original formatting as much as possible minus the re-encoding. Only season 5 I did and even then I didn't really know which subtitles to put as default so just left English audio as default and figured people can modify as they'd like.
I have no idea what happened there but thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'm re-encoding now and will upload to Mega for a separate download. Thanks @Ascdren. They kind of blend together after a while and you lose sight lol..
Edit: Fixed version.

@usifrenegade - Thanks for this, it's very much appreciated. I only wanted your Sailor Moon Stars, but I noticed a couple issues with your Handbrake settings you may wish to address.
First, for the audio tracks you should use "AC3 Passthru" (or "Auto Passthru"). You selected "AC3" which actually re-encodes it even though it's still the same format.
Secondly, in the Handbrake "Filters" tab you need to change the Deinterlace setting from "Decomb" to "Off". The sources for these are not interlaced so it's not needed, and unfortunately Handbrake's auto-detection for this is failing miserably for these DVDs. If you step-frame through an episode (I was testing the very start of episode 183) you will notice that many frames contain nasty stair-stepping. This is not present on the original DVDs and is being caused by the Decomb filter. When you turn this filter off the stair-stepping will go away,
The second issue is a pretty big deal, so I hope you are willing to re-encode Sailor Moon Stars with the two fixes I pointed out. I'm sure your fans will love you for it! ;)
Thanks!
@Chichiri THANK YOU. I really am actually learning as I'm going so that's great advice. Even with audio encoding.. For me, the longest time there wasn't much other than AAC or FLAC till you kind of look a bit behind the curtain. I will definitely give them a re-encode this weekend.
As with the other re-encodes they've generally been of a newer nature and I know that the sailor moon DVD's have had some pretty big issues (like the BD's or something were done poorly etc.
Shouldn't take too long hopefully considering it's just Season 5 this time.
Also as with with most x265 encodes. Is it best to stick with AC3 passthru? and regarding the filtering and Deninterlacing. does this mostly apple to older animes? or both newer? just for the newbie in me learning :)
And now I need to find the .iso files of season 05 cause like an Idiot I had to clear my Hard drive for space..
Hey @usifrenegade, absolutely loving your uploads! Grabbed and seeding the Digimon Movie remaster and the edit is great. Finally a proper preservation of that version of that film. My curiosity though is, I see you did a transfer of the Adventure 01 season, do you ever plan on tackling Digimon II 02? Not many uploaders have bothered re-encoding or really even collecting all the episodes with the English dub. I would love to see your dedication reach that series.
@Chichiri -- Can I get your opinion on this remux of it? https://mega.nz/#!AgQhVYrZ!GQrz5rwygPcMZq4-0oEeTb6Bf_oYzLNTXchAYIPKevk
Specifically That's Episode 183. If you think not good enough I'm gonna find and find the ISO's and re-rip the episodes again and start from scratch. tbh I can see a subtle difference. I'm hoping a trained eye can help me with that.
@FilmToaste Firstly I'm really happy I can give back to the community in my limited capacity. So i am sincerely glad you enjoy these uploads. NOW for Digimon Adventure 02 Aka Season 2 lol... I was initially waiting for @Trunks9us to finish his encoding of the series (He was working on a BD release back in the day and returned to it recently) but life can be complicated and sometimes things do come up.. (Like I've had the Sailor Moon Season 5 ISO's for over 6 months... I never got around to fixing and getting it up).
So I can re-encode the DarkTeam release I have (12.2GB), there is also AndrewTJB (10.1GB) release which I'm downloading to compare and finally a third source. Positirons (9.1GB) which is Japanese audio / subbed.
I personally don't mind putting out a re-encoding of any of these. Let me know how you feel and I'll wait for these to download so I can compare the quality. I'm sure there will be time diferences between the Japanese audio & English as they are notorious for cutting shit out.
@usifrenegade – It's great that you want to learn good encoding techniques! I'm happy to offer a bit of advice. I need to split this into two posts as it's too big for one.
Your "remux" appears to be a "re-rip" of your original encode. A "remux" consists of packing existing data streams into a new container file (ie: MKVmerge for MKV files, or MP4Box for MP4 files) and does not re-encode anything. Re-encoding lossy data will always degrade the data even further so you don't want to do that. You can't fix the errors introduced in your original encode by re-encoding the bad encode, so you will need to rip from the original ISO files again.
For audio, it makes no difference if you use x265 or x264 (or anything else for that matter). You want to use a "Passthru" setting whenever you wish to preserve the source audio and not re-encode it. This is almost always the preferable choice for DVDs, and often for other sources as well. Using "Auto Passthru" is the simplest choice for this when you know you want to preserve the original audio regardless of the format. But if you select say “AC3 Passthru” and the source is DTS then it will convert the audio to AC3, same as if you choose “AC3”.
If your source is blu-ray with HD audio (ie: DTS-HD or TrueHD), and you want good audio but not something that big then choose "DTS Passthru" instead of "DTS-HD Passthru" and "AC3 Passthru" instead of "TrueHD Passthru" to use just the core audio without the extra bloat.
If your aim is small filesizes you can re-encode the audio and still get good quality if your bitrates are decent. AAC is usually the best choice when re-encoding audio. Good bitrates would be 384 kbps for 5.1 audio and 192 kbps for 2.0 audio.
As for deinterlacing, the best thing you can do is determine if your source DVD is interlaced or not then adjust settings accordingly. If it's not interlaced then turn off "Decomb" to avoid possible issues like what you had. If it is interlaced, leave "Decomb" on.
Now check the source framerate. If it's 29.97 fps then also set the "Detelecine" filter to "Default" and on the "Video" tab set it to a "Constant Framerate" and 23.976 FPS.
Telecining is the process of converting 23.976 (or 24) FPS to 29.97 (or 30) FPS. This was done in the old days to covert film framerates to NTSC for the old tube TVs which operated at 60 Hz, or 30 FPS after combining interlaced frames. It essentially converts every 4 frames into 5 frames. When you step through such video you will see that either every 4th and 5th frame are the same, or when interlaced they will have odd and even fields from two different frames. (This causes the "ghosting" artifacts you see in badly mastered blu-rays.)
Sometimes you will have video that actually is 29.97 (or 30) FPS, without the duplicate 4th and 5th frames, such as homemade video, in which case you can leave the source framerate if you wish.
FYI, the reason for framerates such as 23.976 and 29.97 versus 24 and 30 is that when color was first introduced back in the old days, they basically stole 1 frame in every 1000 to store color data. So 24 frames became 24000/1001 = 23.976 and 30 frames became 30000/1001 = 29.97. It's redundant today but the standard still sticks.
Lastly, ALWAYS check your encode before uploading. Watch a bit to ensure it looks and sounds okay, then step-frame through a bit of it to help locate possible issues such as what you had. It's easy to locate problems such as stair-stepping when you step through the video frame by frame.
I hope I didn't overwhelm you too much lol. But this information should help explain some things if you want to understand encoding better. Good luck with your future encodes, and I look forward to a new encode of Sailor Moon Stars.
Fucking SENSEI. *Bows*
Thank you for all that. I will memorize it too heart. I think for the most part I got away with most of my re-encodes cause they were generally BDRips initially so much of the work was done and there was just initial bloat so the program did most of the work. I truly am thankful for that long and sorry for making you have to write an essay on my behalf haha. It really is an eye-opener in terms of re-encoding as we're now progressing more into HEVC / x265 territory since it's initial release it was just an unknown and scary new format that many stayed away from or didn't have full mastery of it. So it really does amaze me that so much quality can be saved and yet maintained in a relatively small file size.
I don't really do re-encodes often, but I do sometimes feel the need for things I may have collected (Have been collecting anime since 15 -- so 15 years worth of collecting now) and know that many releases have been lost to the passage of time. I actually plan to do a re-encode of Youkai Watch episodes 1-192 + movies + side animes since it topples the better half of 130GB right now and all that you've written up for me will help so much.
My primary issue now... I can't find for the life of me find the first half of season 5 .iso's .. So meaning I have the half the episodes... I feel like an idiot for deleting not only the .iso's but also the rips of them.. I should've uploaded the rips in their original form. They were roughly 550-600MB each. I guess Its a learning curve with these things and this; with your guidance helped me see that. I'm trying now to find the source and contacted the original uploader since it's gone down but the 2nd half remains. Here is hoping.
I'm glad you liked it! =)
You can use Inverti's release of the first half of Stars at https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1184651
The MKV files are packed with the actual DVD video and audio streams and are not re-ripped so they will be 100% identical to the original DVDs. You'll need to grab the subtitles from your original release as he didn't include them. Use MKVToolNix (MKVmerge) to remux with the different tracks.
I actually looked at them not long after HAHA.
I also found Moozi's release of the BD's. https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1214202
What do you think? I'm thinking of re-muxing the english audio (fixing minor delays or issues) but from the sample episode i downloaded, they seem identical in terms of timing; so putting the subtitle package together, re-encoding with my new profound teachings and re-releasing a 1080p HEVC pack. He did an amazing job of cleaning up the BD's I think.
You're getting into a whole new ballgame if you want to start mixing from different sources like that. If you want to try your hand at it then go for it, but I'd recommend first releasing a v2 of the DVD encode to replace the first one you uploaded.
And ya, Moozzi does do good work for sure. Some people prefer unfiltered video though, in which case LowPower-Raws would be a good choice. Just use whichever one you prefer.
BTW, where did you find the ISOs for second half of Stars? I can't find them anywhere.
Thank you so much for the response @usifrenegade! Yeah, I'm familiar with DarkDream and his previous encodes, though a lot of his uploads are sourced from DVD upscales, that may be the best option available. And considering the little differences between the JP and EN episodes of the season, some editing would be required. If you're up for it!
Few notes:
1) You should not include invalid CRCs in filenames. The ones you have now are from original files, but this is a re-encode, so they are no longer the same. Having incorrect CRCs is worse than having none at all as it falsely indicates files as being broken.
2) Audio codec name has a typo in filenames "ACC" -> "AAC"
3) You have this "[1080p_Hi10P_Blu-Ray][x265_10bit]" in some file names - it is invalid. Hi10P is short for High 10 Profile and and that is specific for AVC (x264) - for HEVC (x265) 10 bit profile is main, so Hi10P part should be removed as you already have bit depth specified separately.
4) Be careful when using other group tags - Nyaa has rules against that (it does not specify this exact use case, but it might apply)
@Hark0n --
01) Thank you for your uploads first and foremost. All Your releases are top quality, amazingly encoded and executed.
02) Again thank you for the advice. I myself am unsure on how to go about labeling them most days. Even when selecting the category; thus, choosing it as a "remake" as it was not my own, as all i did was re-encode into a smaller file size. I might take it down soon depending on the 1080p versions are and how the audio aligns and if they can work accordingly.
03) I will for future updates remember that. Again as I said with Chichiri, It's a learning curve for me as I don't do this professionally nor do I claim to be some amazing editing expert such as the likes of you and others who work tirelessly as near perfect encodes so I appreciate the advice and am thankful for that.
I just do this for my own hard drives and the fact that almost all the best uploads (Such as yours) chew away even at 10TB hard drives lol and simply just want to give back to the community that gives a lot to me and others. This was unfortunately a rush job as I had the files sitting there for months and needed a distraction from university so made many fumbles.
Which is not to say I don't love me some high-quality releases but boy can they demolish space like nothing (like your Escaflowne release. By FAR the best one and I refuse to budge on getting another release lol..)
04) For future reference, If i was too use another groups release (i.e. yours for example) with re-encoding; Do I keep the original groups names? change it completely to my own or do hyphenated name tags? A genuine question since the initial release wouldn't be from a raw but rather a re-encode of another groups efforts and as I am still new and there really isn't a how-to on these kinds of things. Thanks again for taking the time to write this up for me. I feel like this release has taught me a lot between the two of you giving a lot of advice and consideration for any future releases I may do.
@FilmToaster I may do a re-encode of the DarkTeam as theirs seems to have the best overall quality and with my new education from the veterans give it a try and see how the results come out with a two-pass. If they prove well I may try and see how differing the audio's are between the two. Worst case I can re-encode both the DarkTeam English release and the Japanese audio release only and bundle them. As I feel combined they should not topple the better half of 10GB -- Possibly 12GB.
Though it's become cliche at this point. Thank you all for the support, criticism, feedback and responses and teachings. Hopefully I can continue to contribute more to the community since I don't want this community to die out and I do miss that many dedicated groups or individuals go unrecognized in many aspects now (especially the likes of Hark0n) and that many anime are freely online and have their subtitle work and encoding overshadowed by companies that mass release as opposed the older days where you had quality styling and encoding. Even to the point their releases are used to fuel websites for commercial gain.
Apologizes in advance for any delayed responses as I will be sleeping soon and will come back to the comments in the morning.
@Chichiri I am apart of a few forums and torrent websites through my years of collecting so I have one that primarly focuses on Mega uploads (discreetly of course) -- I contacted the original uploader and his in the process of uploading the Part 1 ISO's. Please let me know if you'd like me to release those ISO's as an individual torrent, or to rip them to seperate episodes and release the uncompressed files instead (initially they came out at 550-600MB so unsure how Invertii got his to 1GB-1.1GB.
If you'd like the link the the Mega upload, please let me know, otherwise I'll upload them in the entirety when they're back up. Both Part 1&2. Hopefully In the next few days. For Now I'll leave this torrent up as people are still downloading and I wish to see how I go with the BDRips and the muxing of audios and how efficient I can be with those. If I fall short, then I'll fall back to this and fix up the issues you and Hark0n both brought up and delete this torrent and bring up a new one. With better coding (on all seasons, including my season 5 blunder). May annoy some people but I'd like to learn from my mistakes and set things right as I don't want to step on Hark0n or any other groups feet.
Also sorry for these long winded replies to everyone. It's been an eye opener in all aspects (both formatting, naming and uploading) and it under me to reply whole-heartily.
@usifrenegade
You are welcome.
As for group tagging, I would suggest using your own tag for all the files that are modified by you (re-encoded or re-muxed) and add description that clearly lists sources - this is closes thing I have seen that could be considered a standard (specially for remuxes). Additionally you can add information in track titles specifying source and possibly modifications that were done.
@Hark0n Thank you. I will furthermore do this. Do I still mark them as "remake" and "complete" when uploading to Nyaa btw? Or just simply keep it as "complete" and list my sources as always.
Also why I have the en-coding god (in my eyes anyhow)
I tried re-encoding the Escaflowne since yours is by far the best I have seen in all the releases ( f*ck what people say about grain.. that just adds the quality of the classic of the anime)
are these ok as a re-encode with retaining the quality that you had previously had? I mananged to bring it down to roughly 20GB but it seems some others have also released some more releases of Escaflowne so I didn't see the need to release it but then again... To me they just kind of had that spark missing that your releases had (the attention to detail, the added audio tracks, subtitle styling, coding etc).
So I wish to know whether you think this is worth the upload or leave the Escaflowne community be for now and continue to work on this Sailor Moon project and try and perfect that now with all this new knowledge I've obtained as I hope the audio matches up with the BD raws and it's an easy transition between remuxing the English audio and subtitles and doing a release of that.
Also by your advice, should I take this torrent down once I've re-encoded the season 5 files and re-release it with proper naming and the works?
examples of the HEVC Escaflowne encode from your release btw. Some examples.

@usifrenegade
Yes, reencodes of original releases should be marked as "remake" - you can find additional information in Nyaa Help page - https://nyaa.iss.one/help
While I am grateful for the praise, I could hardly be considered skilled encoder, specially using Escaflowne as example, as I did not encode it (both TV series and move were encoded by Kuramori). And I also did not do the subtitles for it - I acquired them from Gray-Phantom.
As for your encode, I can't say as I am not target audience for it - I don't download reencodes and I usually don't download HEVC releases either. If you don't plan on deleting the files of it, then I suggest to finish Sailor Moon first and then return to it with "fresh look" (you may learn a trick or two while working on Sailor Moon).
> I hope the audio matches up with the BD raws and it’s an easy transition between remuxing the English audio and subtitles and doing a release of that
For first 2 seasons it is not an easy transition as they changed placement of episode intro/preview and length of pauses around eyecatch. It might be better for later seasons, but I have not checked those.
For torrent management, I am no expect in this, but I would suggest not leaving this torrent in public view once the new one is up. You can hide it ("Hidden" checkbox) and update description with a link to the new torrent in case there are links to it in other sites or someone stumbles on it somehow. Or you can just delete it as in either case new torrent should "replace" this.
@usifrenegade - If you're allowed to post the MEGA links that'd be cool, but don't burden yourself otherwise. I just wanted to extract the audio to mux with a Japanese RAW myself. Although other people might appreciate if somebody uploaded them here. If you do though, uploading the ISOs is preferable, not anything else. That way there's no room for errors, and people will know they are getting everything, unmolested, and complete.
thank you both. I think I will do a dump of the ISOs once the original has it back up. and I’ll try and see how the original season goes regarding that.
I’ll definitely be doing that once I re extract the individual files and do another encoding of them.
Oh you can... I usually have an individual file that rips them automatically as a quicker process.. But now that you mention it.. It may be more beneficial to use the Handbrake method as it would directly apply the coding and then I can separate them as such.. HMMM... Decisions decisions..
FOR NOW. oh great sensei.. Should I put up the ISO's on here (got them back YAY - the uploader graciously reuploaded them the second I send him a message) -- or should I rip them? They're roughly 25GB total.
I think as a whole I would like to grow as a encoder after learning from both you and Hark0n but at the same time, I want to give my hand at the 1080p release. Since apart from the defiltering of season 5 and that 1 blunder episode.. It wasn't a complete fail and the de-interlacing I'm sure (or hoping haha) wont annoy too many people.
So Sensei? ISO's up first? then work on BD remuxing or re-do season 5?
Also Quick note sensei; with the framerate for season 5; do i stick with the 23.976 (or 24) FPS to 29.97 (30) ?
Perhaps uploading the ISOs first would be a good idea then. I know I'd download them. Many people would prefer having the ISOs anyway. And it would give anyone else the opportunity to do their own rips, or simply extract the audio if that's what they want. Thanks usifrenegade.
EDIT: The source framerates are on these DVDs are 23.976 FPS so that's what you want, but you can (should) use the default settings for such DVDs as "Peak Framerate" with 30 "Framerate (FPS)". The final encode will show in the MediaInfo that it's 23.976 FPS, with either a constant framerate, or a variable framerate if the source ever fluctuated, which sometimes it does (and is okay).
Thank you for all the advice thus far. I've actually saved it all. I understand that completely. You can tell even I don't do this full time as life can be hectic.
Sincerely thankful for the effort of the comments prior to this tho. They've helped me a lot
The torrent with the ISOs should be up very soon.
And It's up @Chichiri!
https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1226301
I'll continue to do my re-encode but I may try my hand at the 1080p release and go from there. See how I go about re-uploading this since it needs the de-interlacing fixed and name adjustments like Hark0n said.
Cool beans! Thanks! If you want to do the 1080p release you should just do that now then, since you've uploaded the DVD ISOs. If anybody wants something better than your previous upload of it they can download the ISOs instead.
Yeah just realized.. I am about re-encode them for a minor difference that many might not not notice.. I feel like I might leave this up and just push forward and learn from my mistakes and maybe come back to this and fix it later after the 1080p release. Since once I do re-upload, many of those who downloaded it won't re-download I think or bother or care if they don't see a change other than names and the de-interlacing, which I'm sure now that the ISO's are up, someone will do great work with them.
Edit: how's this for a re-encode btw Chichiri? per your new instructions using handbrake:
https://mega.nz/#!1t4lzBoD!SuKO_PudFsum0dfIFMXcUg-977zpRSJtQ0Ep0FRbms4
Perfect! (Sorry for the late response. I was busy.) I see you also have all 3 subtitle tracks, including the Signs/Songs track to go along with the full subtitles and dubtitles. It contains the original untouched AC3 audio now, and the stair-stepping is gone! Good job, congrats! =)
One thing is off though. Your new encode has an extra copy of the opening tacked on to the end. I can't even imagine how that happened. Once I have the ISOs downloaded I can take a look myself and maybe see how that happened.
I think the chapters must've gotten jumbled in the Handbrake program and thus added the extra chapter.. It should be a relatively easy fix though as it's just a chapter removal so shouldn't take much effort in that sense. I'm hoping anyhow lol...
Ah, these DVDs didn't split each episode into their own "Title", hence the problem. They're all lumped together into one title, so you need to manually identify which chapters belong to which episode and set the chapter range in Handbrake yourself.
I did a quick test of episode 167, setting the chapter range from 1 to 5 and it came out okay at the correct length without the extra opening tacked onto the end. I assume you had to set the chapter range yourself as well then, but set it to go to chapter 6 instead of 5, thus stealing the first chapter of the following episode.
Yeah I drew the same conclusion. i chopped over the overall extra chpater again through makekv but since it became a re-encode of a re-encode it lost some of it's bitratell
Debating whereo to go from now, I fixed it for needs but i might just my efforts in the BD's, Speaking of the BD's should i release the original final sized ones (they're like 1.1GB) or just put up HEVC i plan to d.. pressumig I can mux the audio corectly
Don't EVER re-rip an encode you already did. Always go back to your source material. You can remux all you like however (with MKVToolNix), as that doesn't involve ripping anything, just repacking tracks.
As for the blu-rays, that depends on whether you're after quality releases or small releases. This torrent here was all about small HEVC releases, so if you're making something to go with it you'd re-encode it. It's up to you as to what you're after.
But be prepared to put in the work to sync audio and subs correctly if you're mixing different releases like that. Having audio off by half a second may seem okay to some people, but most will not be happy with that.
I already checked against LowPower-Raws and the audio from the DVDs needs to shifted by -450ms on every episode in order to sync correctly. (Thankfully it's the same for all episodes.) Use -448ms to sync though, as it's close enough to -450, and using something that's evenly divisible by 64 is preferable for audio.
The DVD subtitles appear to work best with a -500ms shift when used with the Japanese blu-rays. You generally don't want to use DVD VOB subs with blu-ray video however, so OCRing the subs would be a good idea, and that will be a lot of work in itself. Either that or locate and use some fansubs. But if you re-rip Moozzi's release to 480p then I'd go ahead and just use the DVD VOB subs, with the -500ms sync shift.
And just to ensure you understand how to apply sync shifts, do that in MKVToolNix by selecting the tracks and entering the delay in the "Delay (in ms):" edit field. And also note that if you use the delays I specified, they are negative values so make sure the minus sign is there also. (Don't type the ms though.)
Good luck!
Yea I experimented a little and saw the 500ms offet was the standard it seems for timing with Moozi. Some seasons require triming (actual video footage cut from the beginning (roughly 20 seconds ) to coenside with the English dub. this will probably be a learning and slow process since I do have uni and for the most part I don't do this often
Actually, the subs work best with a -550ms sync shift, when used with LowPower-Raws at least. I'll save others the trouble with some of the work. Here are two sets all three subtitles tracks (Full, Signs & Songs, Dubtitles) nicely OCR'd and styled, along with chapters. A set for the original DVD, and a set resynced for blu-ray. Enjoy!

Is that you... Kami-sama... That is some fine organizing wow. and Thanks for the tip btw. Question.. Would you go with LowPower-Raws or Moozii's release? just curious.
It's all just personal preference. Both are good. I didn't want it to look so different from previous seasons (as Moozzi's filtered release is very bright and vibrant) so I went with LowPower-Raws. They also have a much smaller 720p version which I used, as it's similar is size to encodes of the previous seasons I have. I wasn't after top-quality for this series.
Hmm I might have to download LowPower-Raws also and see the difference as Season 2, 3 and 4 has the intro and recap backwards. Maybe LowPower Raws are different hopefully. If not I might have to look into cutting the Intro's out (and putting them separate individual files) either way this may be a troubling task and a long project that may not be worth it).
The intro/recap order doesn't matter. There's no reason to re-edit that. The only reason it was done for the first two seasons was that was the only way to match the audio to the old Italian DVDs which had them in a different order. Otherwise it makes no difference.
That is very true-- Though with the RAW's the recap comes first then the intro, as with the English Dub, it's vice versa... Intro then recap. so it kinda muffles the intro music until we get too the episode. I found an easy enough fix though will take me time, and there are some slight Audio & Subtitle timing issues that need addressing.
Here's a really REALLY quick mockup of Sailor Moon R episode 1 I did. Opinion Sensei?
https://mega.nz/#!No5zEZCA!6QsDAPljVl9LsUmqRwCoKmkOG3dYc2hovsHE19K60lc
I'll delete the file once I've gotten you're opinion on it. I re-arranged the re-arranged the intro and recap so the intro comes first, then the re-cap. Also switch to subtitles #2. Nevermind the 1st subtitle track (The songstyle -- I didn't re-time that, even though it's exact same time as actual subtitles. -2650ms if you want it on point)
Also I probably won't get around to doing this till I finish re-enoding Youkai Watch since my old torrent is outdated and now I have episodes 1-192 + Movies 1-5 + Shadowside so I figured I may aswell HEVC that monster of a 130GB file and re-release it and then see how much patience I have with this.
Tbh I don't even know why I'm doing this... I'm sure there are far more experienced and well versed people out there... Maybe out of boredom ? as a hobby ? to hone my skills... I don't even know anymore. Bright side is I did get to learn from y'all so that's good.
You went off-tangent on me. I thought we were talking about Stars, and now you're trying to do new stuff with R. This is straying too far now, and you're dealing with source material I'm not familiar with, so I really can't give any relevant opinions, nor can I take the time to familiarize myself with the material.
Honestly, it shouldn't be that difficult to know if you did something correctly or not. Either everything behaves the way it should or it doesn't. Simply check your final work and make sure that it does.
And "you" are the only person who knows what "you" want. If you want mini-encodes, make that; if you want blu-ray remuxes, then make that. And if you're content with Koten_Gars release then just use it. What you want is your decision, and nobody else's.
You seem to enjoy doing this stuff, so that's good. It can be a lot of fun. But you've got to take charge of yourself and not always look for what other people would do.
So go ahead and try new things out if you want, enjoy yourself, and know that knowledge and experience will come with time. Everything is a learning process, and you'll eventually master it if you stay with it.
P.S. You keep spelling "to" wrong lol. It's only spelled "too" when it means more, or also. (ie: too much, that too)
I think I'll just go with the flow from now on and just see what happens. And the spelling errors can be contributed to the university, lack of sleep and lack of faith in my studies... Also writing over and over again kind of dulls the senses after sometime so you just give up on minor spelling errors after a while after writing academic essays lol... Yes I did jump from Sailor Stars to R but that st mostly cause 3/5 seasons had it backwards and it was just the first I chose to be honest. At this point I'm just running on caffeine and lack of sleep so I need a good solid 10-12h sleep to get anywhere neat a clear mind set.
For now... Let's finish Youaki Watch re-encode and then work my way through Sailor Moon seasons 01 to season 05.
But thanks again. Yeah I'll just go with what I know. If people like; they'll download, if not it can just rot on here... As long as I have it and i have contention with it. So be it. There isn't a need to post any of it; it's just my way of trying to give back to the community and at the same time give myself a better quality source.
I see that you have used Handbrake 1.2.2 for this job.
I wanna share that the default AAC(avcodec)/libav produces subpar quality AAC no matter the bitrate.
I had bad experiences with it producing obvious artifacts sometimes. Redditors on r /handbrake have also discussed this.
It's probably better to
use Opus (libopus) or
a custom Handbrake with FDK AAC (AAC has better compatibility than Opus) or
encode the AAC on another software that has FDK-AAC or qaac and merge with MKVtoolnix.
Just a suggestion from a busybody, since I saw this wonderful lengthy discussion above. Cheers.
AHAHAH. very lengthy. but educational. need to learn any way possible. thank you for the suggestion. I'll do some tests and see how it compares. I need better headphones it seems.
I might have to check our the subreddit also actually and see on what combinations work on overall compression witjour degrading quality of video or audio for that matter.
@Dudun, I'll update it right now. I think It's gonna keep getting taking down.. I may have to regularly check the link... This is the third time it hasn't worked... Well It's updated. New link in the description up above. Sorry about that.
@usifrenegade Thanks a lot for the link. You can try to encrypt it with a key or make a zippylink as well. Or you can reupload the torrent/ edit the torrent(if that's possible) if you want to. Out of curiosity, can you do the Sailor Moon Crystal?
Hey @usifrenegade, do you plan to do a new torrent or is this the final version? I didnt understand very well, but it seems by the comments that this torrent has some troubles with it.
The comments are mostly just educational critic and feedback. I wanna work on a 1080p dual audio version first.. Upload that.. THEN I'll delete this and re-upload clean. Just might lag a while, back at university now and the BDRips require a bit more effort since I want a dual audio version. Other than an episode being cut in half and I've linked it, I don't think there's a need to Re-upload for now.
It's a pity, I was about to download this, but after read the comments I think I should download the Koten_Gars release instead because of the issues on this encode, however they don't have season 5 and I don't like so much the SMC release.
So I hope you can do a S05 DVDrip V2 or a S05 BD 480p Version like what Koten_Gars did with season 4, just for sake consistency.
Apologizes for the delay -- Well I threw up the ISO's for everyone to have access to and I'm POSTIVE someone is going to do a much greater job than I. I personally Just don't like that as compression further progressed, the files remained stupidly large taking sizable chunks.
Now as for S05... I actually plan to do a release of 1080p of this unless someone beats me to it. Just among university, family, work and life in general, kind of hard to put all the pieces together. Also there's nothing really with the encode, you're more than welcome to DL it and see apart from that one episode. I'm still learning tbh man.I might delete this and re-upload it with that 1 episode that's iffy since everyone seems to be more concerned about educating comments than the release itself. I don't do this professionally and they both are giving me advice for future. All I'm really trying to do is give back to the community. Especially since torrents come and go like the wind.
I literally had to scour the internet to find those dual audio ISO's for season 05 when people just kind of gave up. Again, sorry but hopefully i'll have some improvement with my 1080p release :).
@Nostalgi there is some slight grain. Not as much since it was ran through Handbrake pass through.
@Wanderbam Thank you. I'm beating a dead horse with this saying but I'm just grateful to give back to the community. Once I started with finding the dual audio it became an obsession and slowly I found myself even collectingthe OST's and the movies that were mixing from Nyaa themselves.
Hopefully after Trigun is done I'll get to working on the 1080p version dual audio and as Chariot progresses; hopefully a HEVC version of Digimon Season 02. He's doing an amazing job thus far.
Hot damn mate, I had to sign up for an account here just so I could post a comment thanking you for all your efforts. It's great to see someone with such a strong attention to detail.
Haha thank you @Rocklobster but I'm just lucky that's all. Lucky and old hah. Apart of communities that have bits of this and that. So I just kind of.. Put it together. Actually I wanted season 5 dual audio and then I spiraled and went on a frenzy collecting LOL. I have all the materials for a 1080p release presuming someone hasn't done dual audio of them yet. Just been busy with life sadly.
@Yuias I think they are. The initial 4 seasons by Koten are Jap i think but if they're dual audio i assume they'd be uncensored. I may be wrong though since I got this for my sister. I have all the material for the 1080p release. I just need to put the English audio (source 1), with the Japanese BluRay (source 2), and subtitles together (source 3).. all these are taking up almost 340GB lol. I did the first 4 episodes and the audio sync seems good. I'll upload those 4 for opinions
then encode them. I Think I may release the original x264 since a lot of people seem to want to work with the originals and that's fair. I'll be working on them soon since life is getting more peaceful now
Thanks for the support guys and sorry about going MIA. A lot has been going on IRL. I still plan to do a 1080p dual audio release. Hopefully my life will become a little less hectic in the upcoming weeks. And yes before anyone says something; I know that some have strongly suggested that a 1080p remux isn't worth it but it's more a personal project and doing for my sister. I will of course post up for those that want. Those that hate the 1080p releases; just ignore it then.
I've read through the comment thread for this release, and even though there are enough issues (not using AC3 passthrough is an unfortunate red flag) that I likely will not download this release for my collection, I would nonetheless like to thank the uploader for their gargantuan efforts. I hope in the future that there will be a truly definitive HEVC/x265 release of this show, regardless of whoever ends up being the one to make it.
Thanks so much for all the work you've put into this! Does anyone know where to find Japanese subs where the timing syncs up? I found subs on Kitsunekko but the timing is way off
Hmm odd on the torrent download? tried explorer or firefox? I know chrome is finnicky. Yaji i was/am working on 1080p dual release with subtitles for Jap and English. Like you said... A lot of re-timing needed tho =/ I back burned it due to IRL situation sadly. I need to get back into it.
So you will use BD versiion for this? if that so it wil be great and cant wait for this, I always prefer your release than other because the smaller file size and good quality.
Good luck there, you will need that to work at nearly 200 episode from five season.
I was having a weird issue where every time i tried to download the show, i'd get an error message, kind of like boredotakowo mentioned. just now i thought to download the torrent file instead of using a magnet link and it seems to be working better. Not sure what would be the cause of that, but i'm just glad i got it working! This upload seems amazing, ty OP!!!!!
edit: Well i still got the error message, just a little later than i had gotten it on my previous attempts at downloading it. I'm using deluge and i hit force re-check and that seems to have gotten everything running smoothly again?? we'll see i guess
@Shinn >< I may have neglected it a smidge due to IRL crap. Amazing how days come and go like the wind. I'll be working on this month. I want to complete it. Hate that I started it and left it there to die.
I'll do two releases I think. Original file size (1GB roughly per episode) and a HEVC release. I'm just glad I somehow managed to find the ISO's of season 5 dual audio since it didn't appear anywhere else separated. Which is funny since I had to teach myself how to rip and extract lol..
@Autumnai have you tried a different torrent client? I had that issue with utorrent and larger torrents. Seemed it couldn't handle larger torrent files.
Thanks guys and I think so Akichan. I was going to do a 1080p release dual audio but sxales has done a better job than I can ever do. If they choose not to continue I can pick up from there but I think we have different raws.
And thanks jcx. I don't want to see older anime die out and am grateful I found season 5 ISO's since there was no release of dual audio at the time. I'm an idiot and didn't release the originals since I was still learning and didn't think ahead. I'm keeping a spare hard drive now for raws and the like incase anything comes up since things become harder to find as time goes on. Hopefully I can find more time to do other releases.
