Type : TV-Series Origin : Japan Release Year : 2011 Number of Episodes : 25 Studio : White Fox Rating : PG-13 - Teens 13 or older Genres : Thriller, Sci-Fi Score : 8.63/10 (MAL) Synopsis: The self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintarou Okabe rents out a room in a rickety old building in Akihabara, where he indulges himself in his hobby of inventing prospective "future gadgets" with fellow lab members: Mayuri Shiina, his air-headed childhood friend, and Hashida Itaru, a perverted hacker nicknamed "Daru." The three pass the time by tinkering with their most promising contraption yet, a machine dubbed the "Phone Microwave," which performs the strange function of morphing bananas into piles of green gel. Though miraculous in itself, the phenomenon doesn't provide anything concrete in Okabe's search for a scientific breakthrough; that is, until the lab members are spurred into action by a string of mysterious happenings before stumbling upon an unexpected success—the Phone Microwave can send emails to the past, altering the flow of history. Adapted from the critically acclaimed visual novel by 5pb. and Nitroplus, Steins;Gate takes Okabe through the depths of scientific theory and practicality. Forced across the diverging threads of past and present, Okabe must shoulder the burdens that come with holding the key to the realm of time. Container : MKV Codec : aom (AV1) 10bit CRF 30 two pass Resolution : BluRay 1080p Audio : Opus Stereo Language : Japanese Subtitles : English (WhyNot)

Why are you using AV1 as codec does it compresses better ?

@NamidaSubsHindi Yes, around 30% better than HEVC if you know what you are doing. In certain situations I'm getting 50%, in others as little as 15%. Highly depended on content, but AV1 is incredibly efficient, though the decoding is still hard.
Unfortunately the audio bitrate is not specified. Specifying it is important, as it could be [below 128kbps, and thus non-transparent](https://wiki.xiph.org/index.php?title=Opus_Recommended_Settings). I'd rather know before downloading, if this is the case. Thanks for the AV1 encode.

@Kanone I don't get your comment, go and check the bitrate before complaining.
@Montec >Go and check the bitrate before complaining. "Unfortunately the audio bitrate is not specified" is literally the first sentence in the comment you've replied to.
@kanone For this one I find MediaInfo available on [animetosho.org](https://animetosho.org/file/steins-gate-s01e01-mkv.709662). It's opus 91.3 Kbps.
@Futarideii, interesting. Since they mirror it, it might show up faster than on anidb. Although I know at least one person has a bot downloading everything and running with avdump2. @Montec Sigh. OPUS bitrate target below Xiph's recommendation for transparent sound. AV1 is great, but wasted on this bitstarved audio.
Thanks for the encode. The OP takes quite a toll on the cpu :p My i7-4770k and my Shield TV both ate dirt when it started. My iPhone X interestingly enough took it without even a stutter and an i5-4590 I had lying around also had no problems with it.

@Aoshi that's because the decoder which you are probably using (Dav1d) has been optimized for ARM cpu architecture for 10bit content. 8bit video plays well even on slower machines, but results in a lot of banding. So I am encoding 10bit to future proof these releases a bit, because Dav1d x86 10bit optimizations are coming soon.
@Montec: Kudos for using 10bit. But If you care about future-proof, consider making the [opus audio at least 128kbit/s](https://wiki.xiph.org/index.php?title=Opus_Recommended_Settings).

@kanone here how to download Montec torrent download Montec torrent, and download another torrent that are the same source as Montec use(which are BD rips) mux the video from Montec files with the audio files from other torrent, now you have quality torrent PS: 90 for opus is not that bad, depending on the audio it can even be decent, but if there are music, sometimes it suffer so using 128 will guarantee the quality of the sound PS: if he used 128 the torrent size would have increased around 125mb which make total size 3.4 GB PS: for Montec, a lot of you may hate dub anime, but there are a lot of people watch anime in English dub like me, if you want to be future proof including English dub with sign and song subtitle will give your torrent more life as more people will download it, and guess what it only increase 500mb of this torrent so your torrent wont reach 4 GB yet even with that PS: we like your torrent, you are doing great job with the video, just little extra work is needed with the audio files
@Ravarage: I know how to use mkvtoolnix, but thank you anyway. The issue I take with 96kbps bitrate isn't that it sounds bad (it doesn't! OPUS is awesome, and it will sound good even at half of that), but that it's not sufficient to ensure virtual transparency. Xiph tells us 128kbit is virtually transparent, which means that save a few killer samples, it is indistinguishable from the lossless source in ABX testing, which allows for enjoying the video without worrying that you might be missing out on something on the audio side. This is annoying specifically because the audio accounts for very little of the filesize, relative to the video. As you explain, simply making the audio bitrate 32kbps higher would increase the filesize a little. But think about it like this: What if the video was 32kbps lower bitrate? The filesize would be the same. The video wouldn't be perceptually any worse (realize 32kbps is virtually nothing relative to the current video bitrate). And the audio would meet the transparency requirement.
Maybe i will encode this, getting bored again...
is this worth to download?
I'm having trouble playing the files, the audio plays but without the video and in my vlc the video gets stuck, please help!!
actually 12bit are also available now HEVC2 can compete with AV1 codec

@naiyas there is no "HEVC2" so I will assume you meant VVC or H266, which is still in development phase. Having 12bit doesn't do much if anything for the efficiency, neither in HEVC nor in AV1.

thank you, although there is quite a bit of banding
