The closest I've heard to this is "lay it on extra thick", in which case I'd maybe write it as "I'll lay it on extra thick and say that the great Beelzebub..." Okay, after seeing "salubrity" (lol) I agree with Aryma that I don't like the editing/stylization here. 10:26 "I can't decline, can I? Y-yeah, though so." -> "I can't decline, can I? Y-yeah, thought so." 21:00 "No matter your excuse, I try to act like a mother figure" I definitely heard "onee-sama" here, so "mother" seems wrong. So does subbing "imouto" as "prankster" in the next line...

Simply adding "on" fixes the line. salubrity: /shrug imo a fansub shouldn't shy away from using "difficult words" if there's a use for them, so I rarely feel bad about using them. People often spout about how they want to learn Japanese from subs, so why not learn English from them too? :^)))) 10:26: typos ;-; 21:00: Translation and editing is about more than just hearing X word and writing down Y. You need to figure out what the intentions behind the lines are, what they're trying to say, and put those into a way the target audience (for me always native English speakers) will understand without much second thought. To me, that scene highlighted Azusa's goal of trying to act like a role model (said as "a big sister" in the JP here), and that just because Pecora sees herself as her little sister doesn't mean she'll get away with being a little shit. Those were the intentions I understood from the scene, and as such I still stand strongly by not translating them as "big sister" and "little sister" being a feasible call (although admittedly, maybe "mother figure" wasn't a *paarrttiicuullaarryy* fantastic word to use there, which I'll take a look at again at some point for batch). Was the Japanese word used similarly obscure/unknown? I'll just say that pausing to look up a word would be annoying and disruptive in the case of normal viewing. I was already in "look for typos" mode where I'm pausing a lot anyway. The alternative to pausing would be not really knowing the meaning aside from a best guess. >08:01: yeah, another typo. Both words are kind of fulfilling a similar purpose in the sentence, so it sounds like word salad. @iru Editor #1 here (lol) None of the typos were mine, but I think the "mother figure" line works just fine. "make lay" must be a brain fart. The "salubrity" line is light being light :^)

I'm also not a big fan of the translation, I don't actively listen to the spoken Japanese but sometimes the translation just feel off. It is not that bad, it just sometimes distracts from the show and makes me aware I'm reading subtitles. Having to stop up to look up a word would definitely be annoying and for a show like this I wouldn't even bother. "salubrity" certainly isn't a word I have heard either and my spellchecker isn't recognizing it either. A quick search shows that this is an old word which was 100 times more common around 1750-1850 than today. A word like 'healthy' is 1000 times more common as a reference. It reminds me of the Muv-Luv The Day After translation (VN). I had to stop several times and replay the voiced line and listen to what was said in Japanese in order to understand the English translation. You could clearly tell the translator was trying to spice the translation up, but it just made it hard to understand at times. I don't think you need to take account for non-native speakers, but when the Japanese is easier to understand you have definitely gone too far. And when you can clearly hear the voiced lines go "America-jin" and the translation is using "yanks", it is going to feel off even if you don't understand anything else. Just to make it clear, I don't think the translation is bad nor do I claim to understand Japanese very well. I appreciate the OP/ED translation, chapters, etc., and I will be sticking with Chihiro for consistency, but I would reconsider for grapping a BD release of this show. It just doesn't flow properly for me at times, not very often, but still enough to a point were I started noticing it.
