The Level Sets video is known for being probably the best HD release that DBZ is ever going to get, however the authoring of the BDs is known for having an abundance of excess grain and blocking due to the low bitrate for each episode. This was painstakingly reduced and fixed by JySzE, with the result being a cleaner image with less obtrusive grain. 2. Episodes 35-39 were only ever released as downloads for gaming platforms and have since been replaced with more modern HD sources. These captures are sourced from brand new high quality PS3 captures with proper levels and color space provided to us by Arian. They have the same fixes for grain and blocking as the BD source. Some credits for these episodes are from an earlier release done by Arian & DragoonClawNZ. 3. All episodes are R2J Dragon Box synced by compatibility. NEPs were carried over from our batch release and upscaled with the spline36 scaler. [Comparison Pics](https://slow.pics/c/9bd19zq4) ### Audio | Episodes | Lang | Source | Source Media | Channels | Format | Provided by | Sync by |:---------------:|:---------:|:-----------:|:------------:|:------------:|:--------------:|:-----------:|:----------------:| | 1-39 | JPN | 1989-96 Original Fuji Broadcast Audio | VHS/Beta TV Rips | Mono | FLAC | Kei17 | Team Mirolo / HKB | 1-39 | ENG | 2007 FUNi "Remastered" Dub (Kikuchi Score) | Season Sets BD | 5.1 Surround | FLAC | SoM TC | Deli | 1-39 | ENG | 2013 FUNi "Remastered" Dub (Johnson Score) | Season Sets BD | 2.0 Stereo | FLAC | SoM TC | Kratos | 1-39 | ENG | 1996-97 edited Saban/Ocean Dub | Rock The Dragon DVDs | 2.0 Stereo | FLAC | omar1st | iKaos | 1-27 | ENG | 2005 FUNi Ultimate Uncut Dub | UUE DVDs | 5.1 Surround | FLAC | N12 | iKaos Additional QC assistance provided by ZeroCool, vanner64, Kaze, alperen, and JySzE. **Notes:** 1. Fuji Japanese Broadcast Audio is sourced from new rips provided by Kei17 and video-synced by Team Mirolo. In addition, a few tracks that were released but not synced by Mirolo were done for us by HKB. This means all 39 episodes have Fuji Broadcast Audio. 2. Both “Remastered” dub tracks are carried over as-is from our complete Z batch release. 3. The Saban/Ocean hybrid track has once again been overhauled, likely for the last time. For this release the gaps in the Ocean dub are now filled with the Johnson score from track 3 (with some silences kept where appropriate). This change hopefully smooths out some transitions between scores. The track is now presented in FLAC for maximum quality. 4. The UUE tracks are carried over from our Z batch, however they have now been re-exported as FLAC. ### Subtitles | Episodes | Style | Format | Timings | Styler |:--------:|:-------------------------------------------------------:|:------:|:-----:|:-----:| | 1-39 | Stylized OP/ED, Titles, Inserts, and Dialogue | ASS | Isaac | iKaos / corre | 1-39 | Stylized OP/ED, Inserts, and NEPs | ASS | Isaac | iKaos / corre | 1-39 | Basic Subtitles | SRT | Isaac | iKaos | 1-39 | English Dubtitles | ASS | OnionEclipse | iKaos | 23-35 | Animelabs Fansubs | ASS | Animelabs | brap *Names and romanization contributions from AnimeAjay, dubudavid, Romao, Herms, and SaiyaJedi. Styling has been updated for all stylized tracks to better align with the Levels. [Styling Examples](https://imgur.com/a/a8bfVVQ) 2. **For best stylized sub viewing, please use the VSFilter renderer on MPC-HC, or MPV.** Link for [MPV on PC](https://mega.nz/file/mZ0XFQjL#A8nCYQPeL9kLUHPgRufcs6dl9JGDmKuFEqhTUf2_oHM) / Link for [MPV on Mac](https://mega.nz/file/iZ0iWL7T#r9rna07v7Qljrumn8cWgTlYt1ix9pXqRxM3CG2ov9zk) / Link for [MPC-HC](https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/releases) / Link for [VSFilter](https://www.videohelp.com/software/VSFilter-DirectVobSub). 3. English dubtitles for the series were synced by OnionEclipse. They are timed and contain the dialogue for the remastered dub. 4. Subtitles based on the old Animelabs fansubs are included for episodes when available (23-35). Thanks to brap for preserving this history. ### FAQs 1. **Why so big?** Video and grain fixes require more bitrate. 2. **But your older version is so much smaller!** I made that one 2 and a half years ago and I really had no idea what I was doing tbh 3. **What about SelectaVision’s upcoming BD release?** It’s bad. 4. **Where’s the DBOX audio?** Not here. 5. **What’s next?** Bebop and the DB movies are currently next in line. Join our server for more updates. 6. **Why is your FAQ so much shorter than they used to be?** That’s what happens when you keep having to answer questions for 2 years. ### Thanks A lot of people helped make this a reality. Thanks in particular to JySzE, Kei17, Team Mirolo, HKB, Arian, vanner64, dubudavid, AnimeAjay, Deli, Kratos, corre, Johnster, OnionEclipse, Kaze, Ploffy, Krycek7o2, ZeroCool, brap, Alperen, and TheBlueKnight_3.

I had so much mental stress from a uni class I started, so I dropped the class... at the same time iKaos drops the new DBZ Levels based AF edition into our hands. Coincidence? I THINK NOT! DBZ cures depression, you heard that here, folks.
Thank you as always for your work on these releases, everyone in SoM
amazing work, only curious on why using older versions of libflac and x264
Once I saw the file size, I thought this was your smaller encode of your Z merge release , but it wasn't unfortunately xD . Thank you .
> v5 when? v6 is where it's at.
> v6 is where it’s at. Close. It'll be the 7.50 version.
impakt I'll let you talk a little shit after you seed your torrents for more than 2 days.
Thanks for another great release and for all the hard work as always :-)
Can you please upload Playdia Plan to eradicate the saiyans dvds?
Thank you so much bro. This is amazing, we appreciate all the effort that goes into your releases. Thanks Team :)

Why is everyone bothering with the Level Sets when they are only till episode 39?
@AngelR4 Because you see iKaos in brackets and you download, silly goose.
@RyzakiT you must be confused. There is no Playdia DVDs. The Playdia was an FMV game machine and True Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans sourced video from the VHS OVA. https://youtu.be/cdF7PuwK3eY
Based. Thanks for this. @AngelR4 The Level sets are the best HD transfers we're ever gonna get. I would even say they are the only good HD releases of DBZ. Not even the 30th Anniversary Blu-rays are good despite being 4:3. @Impakt Dragon Ball Z: 7.0+1.0 You Can (Not) Revise One idea I would love to contribute to this is to make SoM's H264 encodes be Blu-ray compliant, so that one could theoretically just convert the FLAC audio tracks to DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD or LPCM. It would be great to have the BDISOs installed on a CFW/HEN PS3 with said PS3 being hooked up to a standard CRT with HD Retrovision Component cables. In fact, I watch Ghibli films through BDISOs on my hacked PS3. Also, I am sad that the SoM Cowboy Bebop didn't come out in November alongside the Netflix adaptation. But at least hydes released Cowboy Bebop: The Movie v2 Remux around that same time. And it is really convenient since while Netflix did get the rights to stream the original Cowboy Bebop internationally, they didn't bother putting the movie up on Netflix.

@HARVEST Our encodes are not compliant with BD spec, in fact BD spec would limit the fixes that we have done because of its arbitrary bitrate limitations. In addition to having to re-encode all the video at lower bitrate, and the aforementioned re-encoding of all audio to the less-optimized THD, we would have to encode all of our subs to PGS which would destroy the formatting. If you're gonna watch anything on a CRT (which you shouldn't because it's 2022 and you're not a 50 year-old boomer) then just stick to the raw DBOX since that's what the DBOX was designed for, all of our fixes are wasted on a CRT. I'm not even gonna touch the asinine idea of watching something that was done in HD on a CRT because I'm trying to be nice. About Bebop we had some delays from our LD capper but it should be out either this month or next ~~which you would know if you and your alts weren't banned from our server~~ but yes Hydes' stuff should suffice for anyone that can't wait.
@iKaos I was born in 2000 and I still prefer CRTs. I hope a comeback happens similar to vinyl. My CRT was from the late 2000s and we had to put it to storage because there is no space to put it anywhere here. However, we might bring it out again when we move to a bigger place. But yeah, the BD spec is limited alongside TrueHD/DTS-HD. SoM works better without the BD spec. The encodes already look great on my dinky ass 1080p 75Hz LCD monitor, so I can only imagine how great they would be on a CRT or on a 4K OLED.
hells yes, i know you said you dont much like the johnson score but the difference between the ocean soundtrack and kukuchi just sounded to abrupt for me much appreciate the change, cant wait for bebop yallr doing the lords work @HARVEST im a fan of crts for retrograming and for older dvd releases like dawsons creek or buffy that were mastered w crts in mind, not hd. be like listening to a record w a tube and string
Zoomers and their creepy crt fetish... I'll never understand. Even cry with component input, and even pvm(both of which i own so dont try to go spouting lies about how they can actually be good for watching shows/movies especially anything in HD), are only good for retro games when you cant afford an oled and proper sclaer to go with it. Otherwise they are useless, especially for watching anything higher quality than a vhs/betamax tape.
@HARVEST Being someone who grew up on CRTs (even having one in my room to play games on my PS2 and Wii up until middle school) I cannot recommend to anyone to watch HD media on a CRT. It's barbaric.HD as a resolution is inherently designed to be watched on a TV displaying from liquid crystal rather than from cathode-ray tubes. Liquid crystal displays just give a far more accurate image. No matter if it's from a VGA or Component input CRT just looks worse. If you want to make an argument how old composite master DVDs or old analog formats look better on a CRT there is a genuine argument to be made because of how it handles analog artifacts
Not super-important, but can anybody comment on what's the significance is between choosing different subtitle renderer at this point. I noticed iKaos recommending VSFilter, but from what I can tell at this point, whether it's VSFilter or AssFIlterMod/xy-VSFilter/etc. you're dealing with long-abandoned projects in any case. @iKaos maybe you can answer this? I guess I've just never understood the distinction between any of them and what might make one recommended over another, especially now. I've migrated to mpv which I suppose negates the issue for me as far as I'm concerned, but it still puzzles me.
For those curious concerning the relative quality of the new encodes, here are comparisons with the previous release version: [**Episode 20**](https://slow.pics/c/Xr4xR8O3) / [**Episode 36**](https://slow.pics/c/Xr4xR8O3) The first set is representative of EP01-34 which have BD sources and the second set provides a sample of the digital-only releases. General improvements in picture clarity are evident from better management of the film grain and intermingled source blocking. The most significant improvements are in the streamed episodes as the newer recorded captures appear much cleaner overall. This is apart form the newly-updated broadcast audio tracks. Thanks once again to iKaos, JySzE, as well as all others involved in this project.

@AndyTheSeveredHead Each subtitle renderer has slight differences in the positioning of the stylized subtitles, and in some cases some renderers will not show the subs properly. The most common issue with using the "wrong" renderer with our subs is the OP credits merging into each other, misaligned title cards, missing blur, shadow, or border elements on title cards, or misaligned signs. Most of the tests with subs were done prior to our DB release back in 2020 using what was available at the time, but since our general recommendation within SoM is to use MPV due to its spline36 upscaler, we haven't really done tests with the different MPC renderers since. @Kuraze Thank you for your comparisons. Your episode 36 link, however, is the same as episode 20.
@iKaos Sorry, here's the correct second comparison link: [**Episode 36**](https://slow.pics/c/2yu7Z7Li)
@iKaos Ah okay, so basically it's that "as far as anyone knows there isn't a one-size-fits-all subtitle renderer, so here's what we know works *for us* at least"?

Was the account hacked or something..?
@Meitou45 Hi, yes, the account got hacked.
damn ichaos was poppin off fr fr ig ig no cap
the opening is not the original, they have changed it and nothing is said. Any other change not indicated?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Davirubs The OP is exactly as it is on the Levels (and Z in general) so not sure what you think is changed.
the blank letters at the beginning of the opening when dragon ball z comes out usually appear in the movies not in the series. Can anyone share the raw level set or m2ts?

iKaos (uploader)

User
@Davirubs here's the first frame of the logo from all modern FUNi Z releases as well as ones from our own releases, as you can see we changed nothing about the logo that wasn't present in the source. For the Levels (and 30A) specifically FUNi used the Z M1 OP to create a textless opening, so yes it's the movie OP but it's what was present on the original Level Sets. https://imgur.com/a/9aGpzpB
Dude please do movies for DB&Z soon! Love your releases as an completionist archiver and a Dragon Ball Fan.
@iKaos Hi iKaos! :) Sorry to disturb you from your work and/or spare time, but I really wanted to catch up with the Dragon Ball projects. If you got some minutes to spare, could you please answer some of my questions? 1) Is your current release of DBGT (v2) your final one or is there gonna be a v3? 2) Is your current release of the Level Sets (v4) your final one or is there gonna be a v5? 3) Is your current release of the 2 DBZ TV Specials (v2) your final one or is there gonna be a v3? 4) Regarding the white balancing and color correction of the OG DB and DBZ, are you making a good progress so far? Could we expect any of those released this year by your estimation? 5) Regarding your 'final' releases of OG DB, DBZ, DBGT and all of their movies, will you be including every possible available dub on every possible available episode/movie (Blue Water, Big Green, Ocean, Westwood etc.)? 6) After releasing everything you work on, will you please also consider a DDL alternative for your releases like GDrive? I mean in the future. 7) I was talking with vanner64 and I pinched this idea for his Super release to include the Bang Zoom dub for the first 27 episodes to make it more complete like SoM does and he's kinda interested in doing so, but only if he can get a high quality (ideally PCM or FLAC) audio source for all 27 episodes. Any idea where he could source those? Do you know anyone that has these? 8) I know SoM is not working on modern-era Dragon Ball, but do you know any SoM-adjacent group that has any plans for Kai 1.0 and 2.0? 9) Regarding your upcoming movies release, is it gonna be the finalized version - white balanced and color corrected? 10) Which one do you prefer and would recommend for the first episodes of DBZ: DBOX or Level Sets? 11) Finally, do you have plans to release the modern-era OVAs too, as well as the two rare old lost recap TV specials from Z?
I believe that is all for now. Thank you soooooo much for your precious time and hardcore love and passion you give onto the franchise!! Means the world to have everything perfectly restored by you awesome guys!! Again, it's really appreciated! Please keep up the amazing work! I will be looking forward for your response!! :)

Check Discord server update channel 5. No for series, yes for movies 6. No 7. No 8. No 9. Yes 10. DBOX 11. No, but recaps are with Z release
@ikaos will the movies include the latin dub?

iKaos (uploader)

@darleyni No
thank you for not including that cringe
When will you do at 1080p up to Episode 291 including all movies and specials?

@FilipinoGrandMaster Never
I appreciate your work man, thanks a lot!
Amazing work, looks beautiful, too bad we're never getting more.
Will you combine and mask/merge colors from 30th anniversary BD and details from Dragon box? 30th anniversary BD Rips looks way better than your dragon box release with better colors on laptops and other low resolution devices. Details aren't noticeable on small screens.
