Here are all 25 episodes of the third season of the original Star Blazers, known as "The Bolar Wars" in the states, in its English-dubbed glory. This is actually the edited and dubbed third season of "Uchuu Senkan Yamato," or "Space Battleship Yamato," which I am currently fansubbing. I thought I'd rip these old DVDs I had of the English adaptation and share them for comparison purposes with those of you who love the old Star Blazers/Yamato series. This third and final season of Star Blazers was handed off to Peter Fernandez, the guy who dubbed "Speed Racer," and he pretty much brought his own crew in and left the old actors from seasons 1 and 2 in the dust. The dub was done in 1985, so it does show its age at times (well, all the time), and there are parts where they go completely off the page and start making up dialogue (like with the narrator), and yes, there are plenty of name changes (Ryouske Domon is now Jason Jetter, for example). Still, if you can remember when this was all the anime that was available on Saturday morning TV, then get ready for a pure nostalgia trip. The DVDs that Voyager Entertainment put out in 2004 were nothing but VHS transfers to DVD-5 discs, and as such, they look really, REALLY crummy. There was very little I could do to fix them, since you've seen what the R2J version looks like on my fansub. This uses the Japanese opening and closing credits, plus the Japanese themes, but the show itself is the edited English dub. Some episodes are louder than others, some have great colors and bright visuals, while others have very dark scenes and low volume levels. Consider yourself warned.
