If you want FLAC or DTS-HD/TrueHD passthrough, don't download an AV1 release... ? The whole point of AV1 is to save even more bits with minimal quality loss at much lower bitrates, and same quality as HEVC at slightly lower bitrates. VVC is coming out, but AV2 will compete with it and most streamers and tech companies likely won't bother with VVC adoption as AV2 will only be a couple years behind and AV1 is sufficient for what streaming and tech corpos wanted it for until then.
Opus is generally accepted as the "companion" lossy codec to AV1 as it had the same goals as AV1 and FLAC - license-unencumbered and royalty-free compression, but lossy in the case of Opus (vs FLAC). Lossy-ness of Opus was scientifically verified to be imperceptible to humans at stereo 128k or above for normal source. If the source is sonically complex, such as symphony, choir or harpsichord, then 160k or 192k stereo is sufficient - anyone claiming to have golden ears and being able to hear "artifacting" from any Opus encoder build at v1.3 or higher is a lying (or more likely self-deluded) snake-oil enthusiast that the "audiophoole" industry loves selling "hand-woven" cables to at $100/meter or more.
