Since these videos are 10-bit AV1, you should make sure you have a fully updated version of your video player to avoid playback issues, whether it's [MPC-HC](https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/releases/tag/2.0.0), [mpv](https://mpv.io/), or [VLC](https://www.videolan.org/vlc/).
You ever try cdef2? I’m getting good results with it.
–enable-cdef=<arg> Enable the constrained directional enhancement filter (0: false, 1: true (default), 2: disable for non-reference frames)
cdef is supposed to reduce compression artifacts by softening them, but unfortunately it overdoes it and there’s no way to control the strength. cdef0 retains more detail but can double encoding time. cdef2 is a nice compromise for detail retention without a hit to encoding speed. Lately I'm using cdef1 for when I need to use --zones for a flashback or other bitrate bloating scenes such as full screen super powers, flickering/flashing, etc.
Just findings for future reference in case anticipations change. I almost forgot, there's an update on https://github.com/Clybius/aom-av1-lavish/tree/opmox/mainline-merge for disabling temporal filtering.

The first thing that stood out to me on image 1 is the guy with the plaid shirt in the background, his face and hair are improved with the temporal filtering disabled.
