After thousands of years of war, humans and spirits finally made peace, and can now live together. Soon, they stared falling in love. But this presented a problem, as spirits lived far longer then humans. The human would die, leaving the spirit to spend the rest of its many years alone and grieving. But all was not lost. A clan of fox spirit created a way for the love between a human and spirit to continue beyond the life of the human: Spirit Matchmaking. By pledging their love to the great tree in Tushan, the human could keep his memories in its next life, allowing the romance to continue, should the spirit find them again. To do this, the spirit willingly gives up part of its power, while the human gives up a treasure. If accepted, the pledge will make it so that the human is reborn with half of the treasure as well as the energy the spirit gave up. Should the spirit find the human, and manage to rekindle the past memories, the pledge would be completed and both halves of the treasure would reunite, while the borrowed energy would return to the spirit. Sounds complicated, doesn't it? Well, to help things along the way, many young fox spirits become matchmakers, helping guide the spirit and human back to their romance. One such fox spirit is Su Su, a cute, but incompetent young girl who wishes to become the best matchmaker. An encounter with the seemingly selfish, but incredibly powerful Bai Yuechu starts off a chain of events that will echo through the entire world. Wouldn't you know it? There's more to both of them then meets the eye. I love this show. It had a terrible start though. The first season looks terrible. But I had a feeling it was going to pay off, and boy does it ever. Each arc keeps getting better, while slowly tying all events together. You will want to pay close attention to the characters that appear in each arc, as they might appear in another one, that takes place before the first one. The animation is now great, and the story is really gripping. It does get a bit confusing at times, as there are a ton of characters to keep track of. Su Su is absolutely adorable, and worth watching the series just for her. This series does have a Japanese dub that covers the first 4 arcs (48 episodes). However, it cuts out some events from the original, including some very important events, in order to be able to fit these into 22 minute episodes. The Chinese episodes do not have a consistent length. Some are 10 minutes, others may be 18, or more. As such, I don't recommend the Japanese dub. I don't recommend dubs in general anyway. The subtitles are from Viki. They just finished releasing the 10th arc. Sadly, there are no subtitles, or even raws, available for the 11th arc. See, the animation company changed, and it seems there are still some legal things to take care of before streaming is able to take off again. I hope it does. I need to know what happens next. While the subtitles are from Viki, the video/audio is not. The ones from Viki were... terrible. I'm using raws I found online, and for episode 049 to 137, I'm using the video from the GuodongSubs releases. I've also included their subtitles for the same episodes. They have .gs in the filename. You just need to select them if you want them instead of the Viki subs.
