WPR: for acquiring the JP LD and capturing its audio
scav: for providing the UK-FR BD audio
Krycek7o2: for doing one tricky edit on the JP LD track
This project was started back in 2022, and seeing as the completion date is still unknown, I thought I’d put out a v0 with subtitles I originally retimed for my own use. I’ll probably upload the other movies as I finish their subtitles. The proper v1 release will have more thoroughly edited subtitle scripts by WPR and the English dub.
I took the subtitles from GundamTheCompleteVersions’ v3 release and removed some of his personal edits, switched his changed rank names with what MechLovin has been using, added some missing lines and commas, fixed a couple of errors, restyled the dialogue, and fully retimed the script. I’ve also included subtitles with the old official translation if that’s more to your liking.
If you want to use the retimed subtitles elsewhere, be aware that they might not perfectly match releases using the original BD Mono track because I timed them to the JP LD track, which I synced to the 4K BD track, which has a slightly different sync from the original BD. If I remember correctly, I gave up syncing the LD track to the original BD track after doing 60+ edits on the first ~45 minutes.
I used a remux of the 1080p SDR disc from the 2020 remastered JP 4K BD release for the video. I can do another upload with the original BD if people want to have it as an option as well.
I’ll gladly compare audio from any release I haven’t listed here, so let me know if you happen to have one. I’m particularly curious about the JP DVD.
1990 JP LD: Has zero/the least noise reduction out of these so tends to sound the most natural. The waveform’s peaks aren’t as high as on the other releases.
2014 JP BD: Has some noise reduction so dialogue is drier and somewhat more veiled in cases and high-frequency elements such as strings sound deader. Also seems to have a slight bump in the lower mids - upper bass frequencies that could make things sound a bit stuffier.
20?? UK-FR BD: Same as the 2014 JP BD.
2020 JP 4K BD: Similar to the 2014 BD but doesn’t have the lower mids - upper bass bump.

For what it’s worth, I am still working on Gundam The Complete Versions and was planning on finishing early next year. I am sitting on a plethora of research from the production side of the original Gundam series and movies and when it was released outside of Japan that influenced my changes to the script, ranks, etc.
If you have any questions, I’m still online either via the blogger site I made or via the X account for GundamTheCompleteVersions.

The movies are always a nice way to rewatch the series quickly. Thank you.
@Redturbo89 I’ll look for that release when it’s done then. Granted I wont be rewatching Victory or Turn A Gundam. The rest would be nice to have though, even if I just shoebox them.

Why is it dual mono?
