Making DVD releases is annoying, and watching them is annoying, but anime studios' upscales of SD anime were so trash in the 2000s and 2010s that a competent DVD release will always be better than watching a Blu-Ray version (to some extent and in some respects).
The primary problems with the Blu-Ray version of Baccano are temporal instability (lines shimmer in the BD version where they didn't in the original) and odd borders around blood patches and such. Also, some 30fps content was brought down to 24fps, like the eyecatch graphics.
The primary problems with the DVD version of Baccano are that it's impossible to watch comfortably without a competent encode, which this is, and the fact that like all DVDs, it has catastrophic compression artifacting in many high-motion scenes. Because of the compression issues, the Blu-Ray OP has been spliced in here.
I don't particularly recommend one viewing experience over the other. The show is good no matter how you watch it, and the same goes for these subs. I made this release so that people would stop talking about how people should be watching Baccano on a DVD remux instead of on a BD encode. I get frustrated when people recommend an arguably inferior and inarguably unavailable viewing option, discouraging people from actually watching the damn show—one that I like and put a lot of work into the script for. (Note: this isn't a shot at sneedex listing "DVD Remux + ?", but rather at the typical responses on discord when random people ask "how should I watch Baccano")
Feel free to report IVTC problems if you see them. I will probably redo the encodes if there are any. Exception: don't bother reporting problems with crossfades. I did my best on those already, so you'll have to make your own encode if you're unhappy with them.
For those who care, the PAR used here was 2560:2133.
I honestly didn't know about sneedex until today, and after checking it out I see it's not all that rare for it to just recommend remuxes, which I think is profoundly silly in so many ways it couldn't possibly be overstated, but it turns out it also has some eyebrow-raising encode choices every now and then.
I'm not involved in sneedex's recommendations, but to be honest, if you're saying that recommending remuxes is "profoundly silly," you're missing the point of the website.
'just download a remux bruh' used to a commonly utilised sarcastic response to people inquiring about the best quality release available for a certain piece of media, specially when expressing an unwarranted sense of dissatisfaction with the then-available releases. It was never a serious suggestion, and it's still not today.
Regardless of what the site thinks it's doing, 'silly' is the best way to describe it.

This is your own personal perception and does not reflect the current state of things.
It's quite nice that the community has shifted towards an attitude of "why are we recommending options that are worse than simply remuxing the original disk or web-dl?"
