After releasing our DBZ merge release in Jan 2021, I made the fateful statement that “the movies were next.” Other projects and the decision to attempt full color correction led to many delays, however finally I am happy to release our interim version of the classic Dragon Ball movies and first two OVAs (“Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans” and “Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return”)

While initially advertised as a full color correction, our team eventually realized that they needed to step back from a full cc in order to make this release happen within any kind of acceptable timeline - therefore, each movie is presented with white balance corrections only. While not a full cc, the white balance corrections were done shot-by-shot and still improve the overall look of the films. We are still hopeful that we will be able to release fully color corrected movies in the future.

In addition, several video improvements were made over the original sources. For movies sourced from WEB-DLs, the dark details were merged from the AVC and HEVC versions of the films in a similar process to our DBZ DBOX merge. All movies also received some basic CDNR to remove artifacting caused by the compressed sources. As usual color adjustments also cause the size of the movies to expand as higher settings are necessary to retain the new details.

All JPBD, LD, VCD, and VHS tracks cleaned and normalized by Krycek7o2. QC provided by Krycek7o2, Ploffy, ZeroCool, CSManiac33, ergiman, VDenter, butler, KameZ, and AndroidxFusion.

Notes:

  1. After extensive testing over many years we determined that the JPBD offered the best presentation of the original Japanese audio. Each JP track was cleaned and balanced by Team-Mirolo and Krycek7o2.
  2. For this release we decided to sync every single English dub available for every movie. A brief write-up explaining each audio track and which tracks are with which movie is available here.
  3. All JPN EDs on the FUNi Remastered Kikuchi tracks were replaced with higher quality EDs by Krycek7o2. All insert songs removed from FUNi Remastered Kikuchi tracks were re-added by Deli. OP/ED extensions for various dubbed OP/EDs were done by iKaos.

Names and romanization contributions from AnimeAjay, dubudavid, corre, WPR, Johnster, Herms, and SaiyaJedi. Titles and credits re-colored by butler.

Notes:

  1. Stylized subs are designed to mimic the look of the original Japanese text for all signs and onscreen text.
  2. The signs/songs track is meant for use with the FUNi English dubs.
  3. If you don’t care for stylized subs, then we have included a basic subs track as well.
  4. Dubtitles are mostly based on the OG FUNi dub, although Z M1-3 are based on the Pioneer dubs.
  5. JP subs are included. DB movie subs were obtained from Netflix.
  6. As always we recommend MPV for proper subtitle playback. If you insist on using MPC-HC please use the VSFilter sub renderer.

Extras

Japanese extras are sourced from the JPBDs. Subtitles for most JP extras were originally done by Pendekar, except for the DVD Promos which were done from scratch by WPR, dubadavid, and SonicMaster2022. English extras are sourced from official DVDs, VHS rips, and YouTube. Note that NONE of the extras are color-corrected.

Glorious. It’s beautiful and finally over.

Also first.

Did you guys looks up the recent french BD release of the movies ? I’ve heard it’s pretty good.
Thanks for that release and the hard work you guys put in for each release

@Bahlskra yeah that french BD ain’t shit compared to this I can promise you

@Bahlskra once the CC version will be out, this will be the definitive way to watch things.

Outstanding effort, looks and sounds great.

Thanks for the hard work, I have two questions
What is meant by dual audio for both OVA? they were never dubbed in English. Or did you include fandub?
Also it seems OVA 2 was released in bluray/DVD along with BoG in special edition, does it look the same as the original release? Did you color correct OVA 2 to make it look like HD? Are all HD releases for it is fan made upscales? Also is the NCED Orange Hero included?

I’m not home so I can’t check, but I just have a question about the subtitle track on this. Most of the torrents seem to use subtitles that come from Funimation’s double feature set that neglects to translate the movie title card, which has the title in Japanese. Or in the Bojack movie’s case, uses the single DVD’s subtitle track which has Goku say something along the lines of “So it seems the world thinks Cell defeated Cell.” Which Steve Simmons said was a mistake and was fixed for the double feature release. Sorry for the long winded comment, I’m just curious if these subtitles have the title cards translated and also uses the correct Bojack subtitles?

@Bahlskra The French Blu-ray set by AB Vidéo uses Toei’s restorations, and the Blu-ray masters specifically (with their additional censorship). Video compression is acceptable on a casual level, though somewhat problematic, with moderate macroblocking in darker regions. The right calls were made here to use the sources chosen.

Kami bless us, every one of us.

Very much good work.
Very much epic content.
Very much 10/10 visuals.
Very much legendary audio.
Very much chef’s kiss subs.
THANK YOU SO VERY VERY VERY MUCH FOR BLESSING US WITH THIS MASTERPIECE!

I hate to be that guy, but if you reencode the video then it’s not a WEB-DL, it would be a WEBRip.

Also, now that you guys are releasing using P2P naming (which is very based imo), you guys should have put the actual movie name and year in the file name, not just the number.
For example: Dragon.Ball.Movie.2.The.Sleeping.Princess.in.Devils.Castle.1987.1080p.AMZN.WEBRip.FLAC2.0.x264-SoM

@KingOfBunnies the subtitles are fixed. In our version the line reads “So Mr. Satan has become the one who defeated Cell, huh?” if that’s the line you’re thinking of.

Amazing. Now I can watch the movies with my real life friend who has never watched the movies before. And it’s a good thing it took years since I timed the subs, so I have forgotten some scenes. Thanks, haha.

Good job, although big miss on the Latino audio.

@3du-54n

I hate to be that guy, but if you reencode the video then it’s not a WEB-DL, it would be a WEBRip.

For a long time, the use of WEB-DL and WEBRip naming conventions have been problematic for P2P because many people have used them interchangeably. There are still releases mislabeled today, with WEB-DLs being labeled as WEBRips. This creates issues where a large group of users block WEBRips entirely from being picked up.

Some consider WEBRips to be screen captures of web-streamed content, rather than re-encoded WEB-DLs.
I can understand both perspectives but the reality is that WEB-DL and WEBRip only refer to the initial acquisition method of a file.

If you look at WEB-DL naming schemes, you’ll notice that an untouched WEB-DL is typically named something like:
Dragon.Ball.Z.M1.Dead.Zone.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP2.0.XXX.

Where XXX refers to the codec, such as H.264, H.265, AVC, or HEVC. It will never use x264 or x265 because those are reserved for indicating the encoder used by the poster.

So, if a WEB-DL uses the x264 or x265 flag, it indicates that it is a re-encoded WEB-DL.

Also, now that you guys are releasing using P2P naming (which is very based imo), you guys should have put the actual movie name and year in the file name, not just the number.

We choose not to include extra information, like the movie’s name and year, because we want to focus on the technical details of the content. Tools like Radarr and Plex can still identify the file correctly, and this also keeps filenames from becoming excessively long. This approach also helps distinguishes this release from any future CC vs WB release, which will not have a v2 tag as it will be a completely new version.

This is just plain wrong. A release can be x264 or x265 and also be a WEB-DL. This can happen due to the service providing the encode settings and the encoder used in the downloaded file, so it will use x264 or x265. A WEBRip should be used if it based on the WEB-DL but not the directly downloaded file. WEB-DL is restricted for the direct file downloaded from the service not a re-encode of it, as at that point it is no longer a download but a re-encode.

@ZeroBuild

This is just plain wrong. A release can be x264 or x265 and also be a WEB-DL. This can happen due to the service providing the encode settings and the encoder used in the downloaded file, so it will use x264 or x265.

This is not what I’m saying. Allow me to clarify, what I am saying is if you find any reputable untouched WEB-DL on BHD/PTP etc they will NOT include the encoder used in the filename and only the codec type, even if the encoder was included in the metadata which is rare nowadays anyways.

Here are some random ones that still had the encoder settings provided to prove my point.

I know that you or others might feel the need to reply to have the last word but I don’t think we are going to be able to convince each other of anything here and quite frankly it doesn’t matter. We believe the naming scheme we have chosen is appropriate, we know it works to pick up metadata, and will continue to use it. If you want to continue this conversation you can message us about it in the QnA server general channel, server link is at the top of the torrent page.

@JanSilver01 Yes, that is the line I am thinking of. I’m still not home, but I assume the fix also includes translated title cards. Thanks!

@KingOfBunnies Yes, we have stylized cards courtesy of corre and moi15moi, as per our other releases.

Fantastic work as always, SoM. We eating so well this October: Daima, Saprking Zero & Now this. AWESOME!

Yeah that is how one group does it, here are some examples of release web-dl groups doing it. The issue here is that you are using groups that primarily that do Remuxes so they are not going to follow the rules the the letter. The point is it should be a WEBRip as it isn’t directly downloaded from the site its a re-encode.

Wen Dragonball Evolution CC+ Unwhite Balance?

@FlyingToaster a good April 1st idea

Almost snuck under my radar with the Daima premiere

hoo boy glad i caught this one. was a little busy watching goku shitting in pampers in daima. great show.

Do I have to join the Discord for fixes or were there none found? On previous post, you out fixes in the description.

@DisplayNamee

There are no fixes. You don’t have to join.

This release is perfect. :)

OVA are single audio only, not dual like suggested by filename, I checked

@RyzakiT They were never dubbed. Not sure why they say dual

Samples of the dubs and white balance in motion for the curious

Probably they made a naming error.
Why did you not delete your old DB and GT releases? Aren’t they inferior to your color corrected release?
Wish TOEI remastered dragon ball for bluray like they did for dragon quest

Will you guys rip and add subs from these to 4:3 movies too, as is?

Colors look amazing, there’s no need for further color correction for these IMHO.

Can you guys please color correct pocket monsters advanced generation movies too? The BDs have red tint which ruin the look. PM’s hardsubbed rip of Lucario movie has tint removed.

@DisplayNamee yeah, it was an accident, both OVAs are JP only.

@RyzakiT

  1. old releases are up for posterity in case someone wants an “untouched” Dragon Box rip.
  2. no
  3. ok
  4. I swear you asked this before and we said no

OK, thanks for the hard work! BTW can you please encode OVA2 NCED Orange Hero?

Hey @ikaos, can you please encode that dude’s mom? Thanks for the hard work!

I’ve already taken dips, so no, he can’t

@iKaos, Thank you so much for this release, so i have one question, can I download this release? or can I wait and be sure that they will release the full CC version soon, it’s just that it’s a little suspicious that in the description when they say “Even more eventually™ maybe”, lastly, the DBZ 11 movie, it didn’t have a WEB-DL HECV version right?
