Recently, a version of Your Name meant for playback in movie theaters was leaked. This so-called "DCP" is very high quality compared to existing sources. It has twice as much color detail as the SDR Blu-Rays, and it has fewer compression artifacts. However, it has a few problems. First, the version of the movie seen in the DCP is not the most recent one—some corrections and updates were made between the theatrical run and the Blu-Ray release. Second, the color information (chroma) was nearest-neighbor downscaled from 1920x1080 to 960x1080 before being scaled back up to 4:4:4, resulting in significant miscoloring in certain areas with high frequency horizontal detail, plus a lot of colored aliasing. Third, there is a slight green tint compared to the Japanese Blu-Ray, and luma values are slightly darker. This release aims to convert the DCP into a more widely playable format (HEVC 10-bit 4:4:4) while also addressing the above problems. It's marked as a BD release because it does technically use the Japanese Blu-Ray for some things and most viewers aren't going to know what a DCP is. No filtering whatsoever has been done other than to address color issues. As far as accuracy to the original goes, this isn't completely perfect since the source wasn't true 4:4:4, but it's as close as a user can get to experiencing exactly what Shinkai was looking at when hunched over in front of his monitor putting the final touches on this movie in the mid-2010s. Because this video is 10-bit 4:4:4, VLC **will not play it correctly**. If you insist on using VLC, you should seek out another release.
