Nearly all flat color scenes throughout the film exhibit widespread banding, and the absence of grain makes banding even more noticeable. Moreover, the film contains a large number of dark scenes, which further amplifies the impact of the banding. On the other hand, all non-flat color scenes in this work maintain very high sharpness. In particular, almost no aliasing can be found along the lines. We applied very strong de-banding and denoising to address the banding issue and the grain blocking associated with it. We restored the noise layer in textured areas to avoid sharpness loss caused by denoising.
