May's dying mother sends her on a journey with puzzling instructions. She is to find Jade Mountain, find a girl, then burn her walking stick. Peniless, May tries to book into an Inn. A mysterious woman dressed in white pays her lodgings. The following day, she is treated kindly by a wandering scholar, who takes her home. His father adopts her. The scholar is secretly a Ninja, and he instructs May in the art. May leaves, to continue on her quest. She encounters a monk, who asks her to kill him and end his misery. May refuses. The mysterious woman in white, actually The Happy Fairy, reappears. May was about to throw herself off a suspension bridge into a rushing river. But the Fairy teaches her how to bungee jump without a rope ! After spending a year with The Happy Fairy, May is wiser, and more clearly knows who she is, and where to find those who caused her (true, not adopted) parents' death. She sets out for revenge. But two of the suspects include her adopted family.....
